Soloist, teacher and member of the famous “Prazak Quartet”. He launched his artistic career in prestigious competitions in Moscow (1982), Prague Spring (1983 – winner) and Munich (1986 – winner). Kaňka recorded more than 40 solo CDs. For his recordings of pieces by Z. Kodaly, L. van Beethoven and S. Rachmaninoff he won the Diapason a Choc de la Music.
He has been a member of the “Prazak Quartet” for more than 30 years with which he performs at the most prestigious venues of the world.
Since 2011 he is employed as a pedagogue at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
In 2014 he was appointed as chairman of the permanent commission of the International Competition “Prague Spring”.
